I get pissed… well I did get pissed
I can’t stop thinking about a question a friend asked me last night.
What makes you angry? When do you get pissed off?
This question has been tossing and turning in my head for the past 24 hours. I can’t think of an answer.
I just continue to think, had you asked me this question five, ten or fifteen years ago… I would have rattled off a laundry list of stuff.
This thought experiment has reminded me of two running jokes I have with some friends of mine.
“I. Get. Pissed.”
Back in high school a friend was ranting about something and ended the rant with “I. Get. Pissed.” This line lives on today. Back when it first appeared it was serious. The speaker was pissed off about the topic. Now “I get pissed” is dropped into conversation like quoting a line from Tommy Boy.
“You know what really grinds my gears”
Thanks to Family Guy, this on going joke started back in 2005.
If a conversation begins with “You know what really grinds my gears” the listen knows to let the speaker vent.
Both “I. Get. Pissed.” and “You know what really grinds my gears” are like therapy. Every time I use one of the two lines it serves as a reminder. The reminder is “dude, this is such a first world problem.”
